The answer is….NO (at least not for the time being). I have been doing some research on the topic, and have found several accounts attesting that the social media giant will NOT convert to a pay site. There have been several offers presented to the current owners of facebook to try and purchase the site for a healthy sum of money (somewhere around $300 million), but they are seemingly reluctant to sell because they know that the new proprietor would most likely convert it to a pay site. Now, I can tell you that this would be the biggest mistake they could ever make. I have seen several forums that contain hundreds of posts from current facebook users telling of how quickly they would revert back to Myspace or Twitter, and not even think twice about it. What I don’t understand, is facebook makes a TON of money from advertising so why would they, or even a new owner need to monetize it in such a way? It’s already worth well over $300 million, is it worth losing a cash cow like this in a feeble attempt to make a quick extra buck?? What do you think? Leave me your comments on this “touchy” matter.
