Ron Artest is an ass, and Phil Jackson sucks!    The Boston Celtics should have won but the refs always want L.A. to win so they make the worst calls in the NBA to suit them.  Need I say any more?

Estimates of the size and composition of Indonesia’s booming population may remain just that despite an ongoing census, if the “discovery” of a 157-year-old woman is anything to go by.

Census officials have said they believe the woman’s claims to have been born in 1853, when Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” debuted in Venice, the Crimean War erupted and San Francisco got its first street signs at intersections.

“There’s no authentic data to prove her age but judging from her statements and the age of her adopted daughter, who’s now 108 years old, it’s difficult to doubt it,” statistics bureau official Jhonny Sardjono said Monday.

The only person verified to have lived past 120 years of age was Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122.

South Sumatran villager Turinah would be fully 25 years older than Calment when she died, according to officials. Even more incredible, she still works around the house and has smoked clove cigarettes all her life, Sardjono said.

“Despite her age she still has an incredible memory, clear sight and has no hearing problems. She speaks Dutch quite fluently,” he added. Indonesia was a Dutch colony for hundreds of years until 1945.

He said Turinah burnt all her identification documents to avoid being linked to an alleged communist coup in 1965.

Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country with a population of around 240 million people. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has said the census results will be important for future governance.

Can I just say how friggin’ cray this news is?? 157??!!  Good lord, what the hell has she been eating to keep her alive so long, cause I could be a millionaire selling it to celebrities?  That is really amazing actually, I was unaware that any human could really live past 120 or so, let alone 150 plus.  Kudos to you Indonesian old lady, if you really are that old, I salute you!  We can all only hope to live even half as long as her (which is 76 1/2 years for those who can’t divide).

Dennis Hopper, best known as the director and star of Easy Rider and for his roles in Hoosiers, Blue Velvet and Apocalypse Now, died Saturday in Venice, California of prostate cancer. He turned 74 two weeks ago. (Source: IMDB)

Born May 17, 1936 in Dodge City, Kansas, Hopper was a life-long fixture in Hollywood. His long career included roles in some of the best or most well-known films from each decade of the last half-century. In the ’50s he appeared in two of James Dean’s three films; as one of the goons, troubling Dean’s Jim Stark in 1955′s Rebel Without a Cause, then as Jordan Benedict III in Giant. Hopper became friends with Dean, who died in a car accident in September of 1955, as his star was on the rise.

Hopper spent much of the ’60s on television, usually playing a nervous, fidgety criminal but Hopper ended the decade with a triumph. He directed and starred in Easy Rider, a film made on a shoestring that became a nation-wide phenomenon and that helped define the hippie generation (at least for people who weren’t really of that generation). Hopper played Billy, half of an iconic duo, looking for America with Wyatt (aka Captain America), played by Peter Fonda (who also co-wrote the film). The memorable third act line from Wyatt, “You know Billy, we blew it” would bedevil critics as they hounded both actors for the meaning of the line for the next forty years. Nevertheless the film was nominated for an Academy Award for the script and neither men ever essentially divulged what that line truly meant.

The film made so much money that Hopper was allowed to indulge in his whims and darker demons through the next thirteen years, first directing the bizarre The Last Movie and thereafter cementing his reputation as an erratic, difficult person to be around and to employ.

The ’70s included Hopper’s underrated turn as Tom Ripley in Wim Wenders’s The American Friend and as a photographer-turned-high-priest proselytizing for Marlon Brando’s jungle-god Kurtz in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.

Hopper’s rumored drug addictions and abusive demeanor while high were part of his mystique until 1983 when a nearly catatonic Hopper was found wandering in the woods in Mexico naked. He entered rehab shortly after which then resulted in a rumored 30-year-dedication to sobriety and another one of his comebacks.

1986 was a particularly kind year to Hopper as Blue Velvet and Hoosiers (and a minor role in River’s Edge) put him back on Hollywood’s radar. The role in Hooseers, of an alcoholic who struggles to become an assistant basketball coach, earned him an Oscar nomination. But it was his completely creepy turn as Frank Booth, sucking from an air tank in David Lynch’s disturbing, great Blue Velvet that stuck with people and gave Pabst Blue Ribbon a reason to celebrate.

The ’90s included great roles in John Dahl’s noir-western Red Rock West (’93) and Tony Scott’s True Romance (’93) and another chance to prove what a true villain looked and felt like in Jan De Bont’s Speed.

Hopper was married five times, including a week long marriage to Michelle Phillips in 1970, and, lastly, to Victoria Duffy. Hopper landed in the tabloids again as earlier this month, ailing badly, he filed for divorce from Duffy, citing irreconcilable differences. Rumors swirled that the divorce was in truth prompted by Hopper’s oldest daughter, Marin, and was principally inspired by a dispute over Hopper’s estate.

“Coleman had been hospitalized in Provo Utah, since Wednesday May 26, after suffering what his family called “a serious medical problem.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Coleman had slipped into a coma and was on life support after suffering an intra-cranial hemorrhage, according to ABC News”.

This is too bad! Gary Coleman was one of those guys that the world loved to hate for some reason. Albeit his life was a train wreck at times but he really wasn’t a bad person, he was just misunderstood. He was very outspoken for a little guy (probably little man syndrome) . None the less, it’s really too bad that little Arnold Palmer had such a tough life after his 15 minutes was up.

THE WEST:

With the Utah Jazz and being swept in 4 games by the Los Angeles Lakers, and the San Antonio Spurs receiving the same courtesy via the Phoenix Suns, we will now see who the better team in the western conference is in the conference finals. I personallythink that the Suns are better defensively, but can they stop the barrage of big men in the middle that plagued the Jazz so badly with Pao Gasol and Andrew Bynum. The Suns do have a stronger man in the middle than the Jazz in Amare Stoudemire, but can he handle big man the double-team? Steve Nash creates a huge mismatch for L.A. however, there is just no way that Derrick Fisher can guard him, he had the same problem with Deron Williams of the Jazz. I think overall it will come down to someone on the Suns roster being able to shut down Kobe Bryant (if that’s possible). It should be a pretty good series, and I like Phoenix in 6 games.

THE EAST:

The Orlando Magic handed the Atlanta Hawks a record breaking ass-whooping which also lead to a 4 game sweep. The Magic’s points totals in all 4 games averaged 25 points per game higher than Atlanta PER GAME! Now, that is either a pathetic showing by a decent Hawks team, or the Magic are unstoppable. I think it’s actually a little of both to be honest. Dwight Howard of the Magic is a veritable one man team right now, and I’m not sure anyone in the NBA can stop his reign.

In the other series back east, you have the Cleveland Cavaliers battling it out against the Boston Celtics in a series tied at 2 games apiece. Lebron James was the favorite to win the MVP this year (which he did), and I think a lot of people thought that perhaps he would be a finals MVP also. That remains to be seen at this point, especially if the Cav’s can’t manage to beat the Celtics in this series. Are Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce still too dominant to beat, or are they too old to compete? Regardless of who wins this series, I don’t think either really has a chance against Orlando in the conference finals, especially since the Magic will be nicely rested after their sweep of Atlanta. Should be pretty interesting to see the remainder of the playoffs.
