OK so we are still in a musical slump, obviously. No new talent or bands to speak of, but there does seem to be hope on the horizon for another form of entertainment. I am talking about MOVIES! There seems to be a whole crop of good ones coming out in the near future. We just had Iron Man come out, and it was awesome (I highly recommend it). We have the highly anticipated “Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull”, The sequel to “The Hulk”, “The Incredible Hulk“,
“The X-Files” sequel(aptly named “I want To Believe”, and yes, Scully and Mulder are back!), Hancock (Will Smith is a bum of a superhero) which looks incredibly cool and funny, the new Chronicles Of Narnia “Prince Caspian“, and best of all, you have “The Dark Knight” (the “Batman Begins” sequel), Heath Ledger’s departing movie. These are just to name a few that look good for the summer of ‘08, but there are a lot more coming out in the fall of ‘08 that look really cool too. For instance you have the new James Bond “Quantum Of Solice”, Harry Potter (and the half blood prince)which by the way, I am not a huge fan of, but a lot of people are. I have been perusing some entertainment magazines and various entertainment websites, and I am seeing all kinds of what could be really cool movies coming out.
Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot I can say for music in the near future. Although we did have a couple of new releases from Nine Inch Nails (“Ghosts” discs 1-4, an instrumental and “The Slip”, which is very cool) and they both are relatively good, especially The Slip. You can actually download it for free if you go to NIN’s website through my link. Other than that, I have not really heard or seen much new music that I could say was any good. I do understand that the band Korn has or is releasing a new one soon, but I am not positive on that one. But after the loss of half of the band, their music is not quite the same anymore anyway, it’s still good, but not as good as it used to be. I would really like to have a re-resurgence of music the way we did in the late 90’s with all of the heavy metal bands that came out and re-shaped the genre. Or even the way that Grunge impacted the early 90’s with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. We need some serious help, so any bands out there possessing talent and will, I implore you to come forward and change music once again!!!
